Toddlers 2-3 and 3-5 years Department 

These departments are very much open plan to ensure the children have a choice in all areas that are on offer and to mix in a wider age group.  Low level  dividers will be in place with access into the two different age groups, this allow staff to have quality group times with their children and carry out planned activities to suit the age and stage of all developmental needs. 

The staff in these departments aim to provide a safe and stimulating environment in which the children feel happy and secure.  We promote positive behaviours and attitudes within the children thus helping the development of confidence, independence  and self-esteem. 

Jack and Jills Elite Nursery will be following the curriculum framework for 3-5 years which is produced by the Scottish Office.  Both Morning and afternoon sessions are structured to provide activities and experiences to promote childrens development and learning covering the five key aspects: 

Emotional, Personal and Social Development 

  • Promoting independence and self esteem

  • Encouraging interaction between staff and other children

  • Increasing awareness of feelings for others and respecting their belongings and their surroundings

  • Promoting personal health and safety

Communication and Language 

  • Developing the ability to express their thoughts and feelings

  • Learning to enjoy stories, songs and rhymes

  • Encouragement with listening and talking

  • Recognition of the written and spoken word, experimenting with writing

Knowledge and Understanding 

  • Promoting interest in their environment

  • Developing early math skills and mathematical concepts

  • Learning about properties of materials

  • Using all senses to explore and experiment

Expressive and Aesthetic Development 

  • Expressing ideas and feelings through pictures and paintings

  • Investigating and using a variety of techniques

  • Learning to make music

  • Participating in dancing and singing

Physical Development and Movement 

  • Enjoyment through active play indoors and outdoors

  • Awareness of the importance of health and fitness

  • Learning how to co-operate with others during physical play

  • Developing skills in both gross and fine motor movements

Nursery activities include sand and water play, arts and crafts, baking, puzzles and games, construction play, role-play, stories, music and movement and lots of outdoor activities no matter what the weather!  Children are also introduced to letters, numbers, colours and shapes.  This department also has a computer suite. 

We believe in good communication between all involved with the child ensures the child will gain the best for their needs and Jack and Jills are happy to comply with any wishes made by parents. 

Lastly, we aim to equip your child with necessary skills, preparing them for school in a relaxed, fun, caring environment.
